Are we not on the verge of collapse?

October 19, 2025

One often wonders, are “We, the People of India” who are able “to secure to all its citizens: Justice social, economic and political”?

Well, the answer of most of the Indians is no. Recent events show that we have crossed all limits dishonesty. First, a Judge was found involved in unknown cash during Holi days. Now a high-ranking police officer is found involved during Diwali days in unaccounted cash and other valuables from his residence. What a festive season?

It is not only judicial and police systems which have been found tainted, there are similar instances in Enforcement Directorate and Revenue department also.

If law-enforcement system is found tainted, what can be said about other organs of the State? This shatters the faith of an ordinary person. It often comes to my mind whether we are safe in the society we live in or we are heading towards total chaos.

We have in place anti-corruption law in but still we have not been to check corruption in our system. As a lawyer my personal experience is, people have little fear of anti-corruption law. The greed for money is so high that no one is afraid of the consequences of ill-gotten money.

In India, there is an adage, if you are caught taking bribe, get your free Corruptionby giving bribe. And this is amply proved when law enforcement agencies themselves are found tainted

By now, it is sufficiently clear that our social, political and judicial systems are not above board.

What is happening in social media is known to everyone. You can set any narrative in the public by true, false, half-true-half-false information. Nobody checks you. Wait for some time, AI and 6G will make the things still worse. Deep fake and deep state fomented by modern digital technologies are other problems which have recently come to the surface. GenZ of which I became aware recently after Nepal uprising, is another factor which can erupt anywhere in the world. South-East countries are more vulnerable.

All these things make one quite fearful whether the State in its existing form is safe.

Let us think where we are heading. As a part of judicial system, my suggestion is that, revisit very urgently the concepts like rule of law, natural justice, etc. to bring them in tune with present day circumstances. Law enforcement has to be within foreseeable time, otherwise it is injustice. Feudalistic approach ought to be discarded urgently.
