ISPs-Immunities and Liabilities

Intermediary Service Providers (ISPs) cannot claim immunity to go above law. They provide public services though they are private players. The societal norms apply to them also. They cannot stretch privacy and freedom of speech too far. There is an adage in law, “you can stretch your arm only to the extent that it does not touch my nose.” In India, there are due diligence rules. They apply to every ISP. Privacy and freedom of speech are within the parameters of these rules.
